When to Venture into Corporate Venture

Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) reached all-time highs in 2018. CVCs participated in $53B of funding across nearly 3,000 deals, a 47% increase in total capital invested and a 32% increase in deals completed year over year.

To help companies make wise decisions about starting and managing corporate venture capital, MBA Fellows Lindsey Wilcox T’19 and William Dai T’19, from the Center for Digital Strategies and Center for Private Equity and Venture Capital, researched the factors that help ensure success when developing corporate venture capital arms.

This publication provides a framework for thinking about corporate investing, including details on determining the right investment objectives, selecting the best structure and metrics, and the degree to which leadership needs to engage and commit to ensure success.
