A Tribute to Glenn Britt – CDS Champion, Tuck Alumnus, Cable Industry Pioneer and Our Dear Friend

June 11th, 2014

We are saddened by the news of the passing of our friend and Britt Technology Impact Series (BTIS) sponsor, Glenn Britt D’71, T’72. His impact on the Center for Digital Strategies, the Tuck and Dartmouth community and the cable industry has been profound.
Glenn was a graduate of Dartmouth and the Tuck School of Business. He was also on the Tuck Board of Overseers.
He was a 40-plus year veteran of the cable industry and served as Time Warner Cable’s CEO since 2001 until the fall of 2013 when he retired. He was considered the driving force behind Time Warner Cable’s aggressive deployment of advanced video services such as video on demand, (as he discussed in an interview with an MBA fellow) high-definition TV programing, and digital video recorders. He also guided the company in its transition to a high-speed broadband and telephone service provider.
Glenn was a tireless advocate of the possibilities of technology. With typical generosity and vision, he funded our BTIS speaker series for the past 6 years. Through this series, we’ve explored video, mobile, social, big data, cloud and IoT technologies, exposing Tuck’s MBA students to the impact of these technologies on them as consumers and business leaders. The BTIS will continue to provide MBA candidates and the Tuck and Dartmouth communities with insights into how changes in technology affect individuals, impact enterprises and reshape industries. The series hosts events including panel discussions with industry leaders, expert presentations and one-on-one meetings with executives. At year-end, the center produces an overview of the findings that gives students unique and cutting-edge perspectives on relevant business and technology issues. This infusion of tech into the Tuck experience has proven to be very beneficial to students and the learnings will continue to be shared, referenced and utilized well into the future.
But beyond all of that, Glenn was our friend. We looked forward to his visits on campus and stopped in to see him whenever possible in NYC.
We want his family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers and they have our gratitude for Glenn’s love of technology, belief in education and  warmth towards everyone he met.
