The Digital (R)Evolution: Transforming Business Models

Technology is enabling the transformation of entire industries, including retail, healthcare, financial services, media and entertainment, and manufacturing. Infrastructure that once enabled technology is increasingly a new line of business itself, as companies look to contract with service providers instead of managing their own assets in-house. Mobile phones and location services are rapidly changing a wide array of services, with sharing economy companies displacing traditionally static sectors of the economy as technology enables consumers to gain access to assets without requiring ownership.

Why are we seeing so many new business models? How will individuals, executives, enterprises, and industries respond to new players with alternative business models challenging their industries? What role does technology play in enabling these business models? What industries have been most impacted, and which are likely to be significantly impacted in the future? What role does corporate IT play in supporting their enterprises’ creation of new business models? The 2015-2016 Britt Technology Impact Series reviewed these questions and further explored the radical transformation that technology is having on business models.  Read more insights and key takeaways in this Overview of the series.
